On behalf of the Conference Organizing Committee, we are pleased to invite you to the International Conference on Silicon Carbide and Related Materials 2013 (ICSCRM2013). ICSCRM2013 will be held at Phoenix Seagaia Resort, Miyazaki, Japan, from September 29 through October 4, 2013, sponsored by the Japan Society of Applied Physics.

A series of ICSCRM started at Washington, D.C. in 1987. After five conferences in USA, ICSCRM has been held every two years in USA, Europe, and Japan under the International Steering Committee. The last three Conferences were held in Otsu, Japan (2007), Nürnberg, Germany (2009), and Cleveland, USA (2011).

The objective of ICSCRM is to report and discuss both scientific and technological advances in the field of silicon carbide and related wide-bandgap semiconductors, such as nitride, diamond, and a wide range of topics from crystal growth to device application. The conference encompasses both fundamental and application researches. Needless to say, preservation of the natural environment and prevention of global warming are one of the most serious issues in the 21st century. To solve these issues, saving and efficient usage of electric energy are essential. Most recently, power semiconductor technology using wide-bandgap semiconductor materials, typically represented by silicon carbide, has been expected to play a very important role for that purpose. From now on, ICSCRM will be attracting attention more and more from many kinds of technical and social fields.

ICSCRM2013, the 15th conference, is the 4th conference to be held in Japan following the Kyoto (1995), Tsukuba (2001) and Otsu (2007) conferences. The Organizing Committee selected Miyazaki city as a conference site for ICSCRM2013. Miyazaki region is located along the east coast of Kyushu Island, the most west district in Japanese mainland, and favored with beautiful nature as well as Japanese ancient ruins and history. The conference site is easily accessible from several International hub Airports in Japan and East Asia via Miyazaki Airport. September-October is one of the best seasons for visiting Miyazaki, so I am sure all of you will enjoy your stay in this beautiful region.

We look forward to welcoming you to Miyazaki in this Autumn 2013 !
